## Description

Pangolin Site is a self-hosted gateway that gives you secure, zero-trust remote access to services on your home network. It pairs with the open-source Pangolin platform to route traffic over encrypted tunnels, so you can reach Unraid apps and other homelab services from anywhere without port forwarding or exposing them to the public internet.

## Common questions

### When should a local Pangolin site be used instead of a tunnel?

Use a local site when the resource runs on the same machine as your self-hosted Pangolin instance. It exposes resources on that host without creating tunnels, but required ports must be open on the Pangolin host.

### What command starts the Pangolin site containers after the compose file is ready?

Run docker compose up -d to start the site containers in the background. If this step is skipped, the app may be installed but not running.

### Can Pangolin's zero-trust remote access target more than a single host?

Pangolin's zero-trust remote access VPN lets you access private resources on sites running Newt. You can define specific hosts or entire network ranges.

### What self-hosted layout is reported to leave a new Pangolin site offline?

A GitHub issue reports a site showing offline when self-hosted Pangolin runs on a VPS and Newt on a LAN server targets a Docker service on the same LAN server.
