## Common questions

### What configuration does Donetick need for a safe self-hosted start?

For Docker Compose, copy config/selfhosted.yaml.example to config/selfhosted.yaml and fill in jwt_secret, database, and smtp settings. If running the donetick binary directly, set DT_ENV=selfhosted and DT_JWT_SECRET.

### How do I set up two-factor authentication for a Donetick user?

After logging in, start MFA setup to get a QR code and backup codes. Scan the QR code in an authenticator app and save the backup codes somewhere safe as a fallback.

### Why might the Donetick app reject a self-hosted server over LAN?

A user found that a self-hosted certificate was the issue. They registered a domain and created a proper certificate for the domain and all subdomains so the app would accept the server.

### Can Donetick be used as a Home Assistant add-on?

Yes. The community post describes it as a Home Assistant add-on for scheduling recurring chores and assigning multiple people to track completion.
