## Common questions

### How do I start Zot, and is a config file required?

Run `zot serve` with a config file. The config sets the image storage location and the network address and port, and the registry will not start correctly without it.

### Does the `zb` Docker example start the registry?

No, `zb` is a test tool for an already-running Zot address. It does not provide the registry, so there is nothing to log in to or push images to.

### Does Zot need a database or other external services?

No, Zot is provided as one statically built binary that installs with no additional dependencies or services.

### Can Zot store images in S3-compatible storage?

Yes, Zot supports S3-compatible storage such as Backblaze B2.

### Can I use normal Docker push and pull commands with Zot?

Yes, Zot works with normal Docker commands.
