## Description

The Firefly III Data Importer is a companion tool that imports your bank transactions into Firefly III, the self-hosted personal finance manager. It can import CSV files you download from your bank, or connect to over 6,000 banks worldwide through the free Nordigen and SaltEdge services, which require registration and carry their own privacy and data-usage policies. Run it once for a bulk import or on a schedule to keep up with new transactions; it is maintained separately from Firefly III for security reasons.

## Common questions

### Does the Firefly III Data Importer connect directly to banks?

No. It uses third-party data providers to fetch bank data. Some providers are free, while others charge money.

### Can I import bank statements without using a third-party provider?

Yes. You can import CSV, CAMT.052, or CAMT.053 files. It can run once for a bulk import or regularly for new transactions.

### How can I automate recurring imports?

The Data Importer can be run over the command line. You can also import through an API for easy automation.

### What should I check if a CSV import does not produce visible transactions?

Check the import configuration and the Firefly III versions. If it still fails, report the issue with sample data and version details.
