## Description

Quassel Core is the always-on server half of Quassel, a distributed Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client that keeps your IRC connections alive from a home server. It maintains the IRC connection while one or more Quassel desktop or mobile clients attach and detach whenever you want to chat. The core itself has no interface, so you also need a Quassel client on a computer or phone to log in and configure your networks. Because it is designed to run continuously, your identity stays present in IRC even when your devices are offline, and clients download the backlog (history) on reconnection for unlimited scrollback. It suits self-hosters who want a persistent, private IRC presence without keeping a personal computer on around the clock.

## Common questions

### How do I create a Quassel core user in the LinuxServer.io container?

User setup is done by running the core’s --add-user command inside the container. For Docker, the discussion points to using docker exec to enter the container and complete the command.

### Where does Quassel Core store IRC logs?

The core handles logging, and the documentation says that logging currently goes into the database.

### Why would the Quassel client show the Core Setup Wizard after the core was already configured?

This can happen if the core loses the configuration for its backend.

### Has Quassel Core on a Raspberry Pi been reported to feel laggy?

A Raspberry Pi forum user reported over 1.5 seconds of lag between input and an IRC message appearing when using quassel-core on a Pi with a desktop client.
