## Common questions

### How do I start Paperless-AI in Docker so it keeps running after reboots?

From the folder with your docker-compose file, run `docker compose up -d` to start Paperless-AI in the background. This is the normal way to get it running and keep it available after reboots.

### What folders should I create before first start?

Create the consume and media folders before first start because they are where incoming documents and stored files live. Without them, Paperless-AI may fail to process files.

### Do I need to run a separate consumer service if I am not using the bundled Docker setup?

Yes, run `python3 manage.py document_consumer` from the source folder so it watches for new files. Otherwise, documents in the consume folder won't be imported automatically.

### Can Paperless-AI run chats against large document collections?

Yes, a Reddit discussion describes creating Paperless-AI document collections and running multiple chats against them. It uses background processing for large document sets.
