## Description

Mumble is an open-source, low-latency voice chat system for gaming groups and team communication. As a self-hosted server, it lets multiple Mumble clients talk to each other over VoIP with high audio quality and minimal lag. ## Common questions

### What should I do before starting Mumble with Docker Compose if I want LDAP login?

Set the LDAP_* variables in your compose file before starting the container. The entrypoint converts them to LDAPauth.ini and starts the plugin, so missing variables can block user logins.

### Where should Mumble store ACME certificate files and what permissions do they need?

Keep the certificate and private key at /data/acme/mumble.crt and /data/acme/mumble.key. Keep ownership set to the container PUID and PGID, because moving them or changing permissions can stop Mumble from reading the key.

### How can I keep a home-hosted Mumble server private for friends and family?

Bind the server to a Tailscale IP so only people on your Tailscale network can connect.

### Does adding a new Mumble server create a local server for friends to join?

No. Adding a new server is not the same as creating a server. If you do not have a server yet, you need to self-host or create one for the group.
