No, the Windows installer will do upgrades so it is unnecessary to uninstall before installing a new version. You still need to stop the service before upgrading. On Linux, install a Java runtime and use the package built for your distribution's architecture.

In versions 0.4.17 and older it is located under /opt/opendct/conf/opendct.properties. Starting with 0.4.18 it is located under /etc/opendct/conf/opendct.properties.

Make a backup copy of Sage.properties and Wiz.bin from your SageTV installation folder.

### How do I discover OpenDCT devices the first time?

Start OpenDCT in console mode and wait about 30 seconds before pressing Ctrl-C. Never run the console and the service at the same time. After it exits, edit opendct.properties if you want to limit what it discovers.
