## Description

REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) is an open-source tool that lets a coding agent reverse engineer apps, binaries, and browser behavior. It equips an AI agent with inspection tools and clear step-by-step guides to examine a program down to the binary level and explain how its features work, aimed at developers and security researchers analyzing unfamiliar or closed-source software.

## Common questions

### Does REA require Hopper, Ghidra, or IDA for JavaScript analysis?

No, static JavaScript analysis needs no native analysis engine. Native binary analysis can use an existing Hopper, Ghidra, or IDA installation, and setup can optionally install Hopper with approval.

### How do I point REA at a macOS app?

Analyze a Mac .app folder directly, for example by giving REA the path /Applications/Notes.app. If the agent cannot find the app by name, provide the installed app folder.

### Why is the rea command not found in my terminal?

Install the package globally with npm install --global rea-agents so npm puts the rea command in your PATH. Without the global install, REA can be hidden in one project folder and later commands may not work.

### Does setup change my existing agent configuration?

Setup shows proposed changes for approval and creates backups of existing configuration. It then adds REA's MCP server and matching workflow instructions, after which you restart the agent.

### Is REA intended for authorized research only?

Yes, the community guide says legal authorized research only.
