## Common questions

### What must be installed before running the Connect installer?

Install the rpk CLI, Python 3, and jq before running rpk connect install. If those are missing, the installer cannot run and you cannot create your first stream.

### How do I start the provided Docker Compose setup for Connect?

Ensure Docker is running, then start the services in the background with docker-compose up -d. This brings up Redpanda and Grafana so Connect has something to connect to and the dashboard is visible.

### What must I do in the browser after starting Salesforce setup?

Open the Connected App URL printed by the setup script and grant Redpanda Connect permission. Without that authorization, Salesforce data cannot be accessed.

### What common self-hosted deployment areas should I check when something fails?

Check pod failures, storage problems, network connectivity, and node synchronization errors. These are the self-hosted troubleshooting areas listed in the source.
