Runs Claude Code as an always-on service on your Unraid server, reachable from the Claude app on your phone or from claude.ai/code through Remote Control. Independent of the array and Docker: it keeps working while the array is stopped and across reboots, with the Claude Code binary cached on the boot device. Includes automatic Claude Code updates (only when no session is active), a Settings page with guided sign-in, and guardrails for a root shell: a permission policy plus a command-inspecting hook that block disk-wiping tools and secret files outright and ask before deletions, shutdowns or writes to /boot/config. Requires Unraid 7.3 or newer with Internal Boot (/boot on ZFS); USB (FAT) boot is not supported. You sign in with your own Claude subscription that includes Claude Code and Remote Control; usage is billed to your own account. Steward is an independent, community-maintained

### Why does Steward refuse to install on a USB boot device?

It requires Unraid 7.3 or newer with Internal Boot, meaning /boot is on ZFS. USB FAT boot cannot provide the real file permissions and symlinks needed for Steward's boot-device data.

### Where does Steward keep its files and Claude Code binary?

Everything it owns lives on the boot device under /boot/steward. The Claude Code binary is cached there and restored into RAM at boot.

### Does Steward need Docker or the Unraid array to be running?

No, Steward does not depend on Docker or the array. It keeps working while the array is stopped, while disks are spun down, and across reboots.

### How do I sign in, and what account is needed?

You sign in with your own Claude subscription through Anthropic's own login flow. All usage is billed to your own account.
