## Common questions

### How do I tell Mailrise which Apprise notification services to use?

Create a config file before starting Mailrise that lists each notification service and its Apprise URL. Without this file, Mailrise starts its SMTP server but has no instructions for turning mail into notifications.

### How do I make sure a test email uses the intended service?

Send test mail to an address whose local part matches the config label, such as pushover@mailrise.xyz. If the label is wrong, Mailrise will not use the intended Apprise service.

### Can Mailrise separate mail from different apps and send it to multiple destinations?

Yes, you can use an email address for each app and send notifications to one or many destinations such as email, Slack, Discord, or Gotify.

### Can I replace a Postfix SMTP relay with Mailrise on the same host?

Yes; one user reused the same LXC by stopping the old Postfix container, removing its role and scripts, renaming the host, updating internal DNS, and pointing the client at the new hostname on port 25.
