Acts as a drop-in OpenAI-compatible endpoint for AI tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Cline, and Open WebUI. Requires a Redis sidecar container for full functionality.

## Common questions

### Do I need to install the omniroute npm package before running the app?

Yes, run npm install -g omniroute and then omniroute. The dashboard opens on the local port 20128, and --no-open can prevent the browser from opening.

### Which folder should I back up to preserve OmniRoute settings and access?

Back up DATA_DIR, where OmniRoute creates its secrets and database on first start. Deleting or losing that folder can remove your settings and access.

### Can I run OmniRoute in WSL and use it from apps on the Windows host?

It is possible but unsupported and fragile. You must manually trust the generated CA certificate on the Windows host and point each host app's network or proxy settings at the WSL proxy endpoint.

### Why can my RAG or agent answer be wrong while OmniRoute looks healthy?

OmniRoute can show providers up, routing profiles OK, and no rate-limit alerts while the final answer is still wrong. This is a known pattern when the gateway is placed in front of RAG or agent stacks.
