FMD2-wine is a Docker container that runs FMD2 (Free Manga Downloader 2), a free open-source manga download and management application, on Linux via Wine. It exposes the Windows GUI through VNC and noVNC, so you can browse, organise, and download manga from many websites in a web browser, headlessly, without a local display. It is aimed at self-hosters who want a ready-made, feature-complete manga downloader without managing Wine or display setup themselves. Note that the original Banh-Canh container repository is now archived; its maintainers point to the ElryGH fork.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Web configuration Configure FMD2 through the web (noVNC) interface rather than the raw VNC session, as instructed by the author. source
  • Headless access & environment No local display or VNC client is required — FMD2's Windows GUI is rendered in your browser via noVNC. Set PUID, PGID and TZ to match your system. source

Common questions

How should I configure FMD2 when running the Docker container without a local display?

Configure it through the web/noVNC interface rather than the raw VNC session. The container exposes the GUI through VNC, noVNC, and webSocketify in a webpage.

Which host directories should I mount for FMD2's persistent data and downloads?

The example mounts a host directory to /app/FMD2/userdata for user data and another to /downloads for downloads. It uses ./tmp/FMD2/userdata and ./tmp/downloads in the example.
