PodFetch is a free, self-hosted podcast server that downloads and organises episodes from RSS feeds, iTunes, and PodIndex, so you can listen in a browser or stay in sync across your phone via AntennaPod and GPodder. It supports single sign-on and remembers your listening position, making it easy to pick up on a laptop right where you left off on your phone.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Create your first Docker user account If you installed PodFetch with Docker, run docker ps to find your container ID (the running app's Docker name), then run docker exec -it <container-id> /app/podfetch users add to create the first login. Without that account, you cannot sign in or use your podcasts. source
  • Choose the right role when adding a user When the dialog asks for a role, choose user for everyday use, and only choose admin or uploader if you need those extra permissions. The wrong role can give a person too much or too little access. source
  • Turn on Audiobookshelf if you use it If you use Audiobookshelf, set the environment variable (a simple configuration flag) AUDIOBOOKSHELF_INTEGRATION_ENABLED=true, then restart PodFetch. Without this, the Audiobookshelf connection stays off. source
