How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install clipboard and interface tools first Run the README's Linux package commands with sudo (the administrator command) to install Python, clipboard tools (xclip or wl-clipboard), notification tools, and FFmpeg/media libraries. If these are missing, the app may fail to watch your clipboard, show its interface, or process media. source
  • Install Python packages before running If you are running the Python program, install the required packages with pip (Python's package installer) from requirements.txt, or use the listed python3-* system packages on Debian/Ubuntu. Without them, Python will error and ClipCascade won't start. source
  • Start the server and enter its details Start the server using Docker Compose (a tool that starts the app's containers) or the Java 21 JAR file, then run the ClipCascade program and enter the server address and optional clipboard limits. If the server isn't running or the address is wrong, the program can't connect to it. source

Common questions

What are the default credentials for a Docker self-hosted ClipCascade instance?

The default admin username is admin and the password is admin123. You should change them immediately after the first login.

How do I keep user data when running ClipCascade in Docker?

Mount a persistent volume to /database, for example ./cc_users:/database. This stores the user data outside the container.

How do I configure peer-to-peer mode in Docker?

Set the CC_P2P_ENABLED environment variable to enable or disable peer-to-peer mode. The CC_MAX_MESSAGE_SIZE_IN_MiB variable is ignored if P2P mode is enabled.

What Linux tools must be installed for the ClipCascade client?

Install Python, clipboard tools such as xclip or wl-clipboard, notification tools, and FFmpeg/media libraries. Also install the Python packages from requirements.txt or the listed Debian/Ubuntu python3 packages.

How can I disable user self-registration?

Set the CC_SIGNUP_ENABLED environment variable to false.
