The Phoronix Test Suite is the most comprehensive testing and benchmarking platform available that provides an extensible framework for which new tests can be easily added. The software is designed to effectively carry out both qualitative and quantitative benchmarks in a clean, reproducible, and easy-to-use manner. The Phoronix Test Suite can be used for simply comparing your computer's performance with your friends and colleagues or can be used within your organization for internal quality assurance purposes, hardware validation, and continuous integration / performance management.

How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

Common questions

Why can Phoronix Test Suite commands appear to hang for 30 seconds?

A Fedora troubleshooting thread suggests the delay can be reduced by lowering network timeouts. Disabling zeroconf was also suggested as a fix.

How do I start the Phoromatic web dashboard?

After installing Phoronix Test Suite and editing user-config.xml, run phoronix-test-suite start-phoromatic-server on the chosen server. It launches the built-in web and messaging servers and prints the address to open.

Where are the default test profiles and suites obtained from?

More than 600 individual test profiles and more than 200 test suites are available by default through the OpenBenchmarking platform. Users can also upload their own test results, profiles, and suites there.

Can I use short commands instead of the full phoronix-test-suite prefix?

Every command normally needs the phoronix-test-suite prefix, but you can add a shell alias such as p to avoid typing the full name.

Why might Steam game benchmarks fail when run as a Phoronix batch benchmark?

One user reported Steam games launching normally in Steam but failing in batch-benchmark. Running with debug-benchmark showed many library-related issues.
