Common questions
How much disk space will rsnapshot use over time?
rsnapshot keeps only a fixed, configurable number of snapshots, so disk usage does not continuously grow. Unchanged files are handled with hard links to reduce the space required.
Can rsnapshot back up remote machines?
Yes. It can make periodic snapshots of local machines and remote machines over SSH.
Why is the first rsnapshot run slow?
rsnapshot wraps rsync and uses hard links, so later backups are usually fast. The first sync can be slow because rsync is slow on first syncs, often when backing up large files or directories that do not need to be backed up.
Can the LinuxServer.io rsnapshot container use my host user and group IDs?
Yes. The LinuxServer.io container supports easy user mappings with PUID and PGID.
Do users need root to restore their files?
No. Files can be restored by the users who own them, without the root user getting involved.
