Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install on Linux with Flatpak If your Linux system uses Flatpak, install VSCodium from Flathub so it runs as a contained app instead of mixing with system packages. This helps avoid missing dependency issues and gets the editor working with less manual setup. source
  • Move your old VS Code settings If you used VS Code, copy your extensions and settings/keybindings files into VSCodium's folders, otherwise you will start with a blank editor and re-add everything. Your preferences live in the User folder under ~/.config/VSCodium, so keep that folder backed up. source
  • Clear macOS security warning On macOS, use the provided xattr command (a command that removes a security flag from files) to clear the quarantine flag from VSCodium.app. This matters because macOS may otherwise show a warning and refuse to open the app because of its self-signed certificate. source

Common questions

Which port does the LinuxServer.io VSCodium container expose?

Use port 3001 to access the containerized application.

Where should I back up VSCodium user settings?

Back up the User folder under ~/.config/VSCodium. If you are moving from VS Code, copy your extensions and settings or keybindings files into VSCodium's folders.

How can I clear the macOS security warning for VSCodium?

Run the provided xattr command to clear the quarantine flag from VSCodium.app. Otherwise macOS may warn and refuse to open the app because of its self-signed certificate.

How do I configure VSCodium in an enterprise environment with Group Policy?

Copy the .admx template file to the Windows PolicyDefinitions folder and the .adml language file to its en-US subfolder. Open gpedit.msc, configure policies under the VSCodium group, and verify the resulting registry.

Does VSCodium have telemetry enabled?

Telemetry is disabled. The project produces builds without Microsoft's telemetry, gallery, logo, and other customizations.
