Bytebase is the DevSecOps platform that sits between your team and your databases. Built by the team that previously created Google’s Cloud database and API infrastructure, it acts as a centralized control plane to deliver two critical outcomes for engineering leaders: better security and compliance, and improved productivity and reliability.

How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Set the required Helm values first Helm (a Kubernetes app installer) needs four values set first: a namespace (a named area for the app), a port (the web address number), a PostgreSQL DSN (the database connection string), and a version. Replace the examples with your own values, or Bytebase may not start or may not find its database. source
  • Use the browser URL you plan to open Set bytebase.option.external-url to the exact address you will open in a browser, and make sure that port is reachable from where you sit. If it is wrong, links in Bytebase or its notifications may point to a dead address. source
  • Choose working storage for persistence Turn on persistence and choose a storageClass (the storage type your Kubernetes cluster can create) for Bytebase to use. If that storage cannot be created or is lost later, Bytebase may not start or you may lose saved files. source

Common questions

What Docker settings does Bytebase's quick-start command use?

It publishes port 8080 and mounts the local directory ~/.bytebase/data to /var/opt/bytebase.

Which Helm values must be set before installing Bytebase on Kubernetes?

Set the namespace, port, PostgreSQL DSN, and version first; otherwise Bytebase may not start or find its database.

How do I run Bytebase with high availability?

Run multiple Bytebase replicas behind the same external endpoint. The replicas coordinate through the shared metadata PostgreSQL database.

What PostgreSQL storage size does Bytebase's production setup guidance suggest?

Bytebase uses PostgreSQL to store SQL statements and metadata. If using cloud databases with disk expansion, start with 20 GB; otherwise start with 100 GB.

Why did Bytebase 2.9.0 Docker self-hosting not work for some users?

That Bytebase build does not bundle the frontend and backend together.
