First-install notes

  • Use the stable installer Run `sudo ./installfog.sh` and follow the prompts instead of using the `-y` option, which skips them. `sudo` lets the installer change system files, and answering the questions avoids a half-configured install. source
  • Run it from the bin folder Open the stable project's `bin` folder and run the installer from there. That folder is where the install script belongs, and starting from the wrong folder can stop setup before it really begins. source

Common questions

Should I skip the FOG installer prompts by using the -y option?

The documentation recommends running sudo ./installfog.sh and answering the prompts instead of using -y. Skipping the prompts can leave the install half-configured.

Do I need boot disks or CD media to image computers with FOG?

No, FOG is described as not using boot disks or CDs. It performs the work over TFTP and PXE.

Can I manage FOG clients from outside my local network?

Yes, but remote management from anywhere requires a public-facing FOG Server.

Why might unexpected network adapters show up in FOG host records?

They can come from the legacy FOG Client Host Registration module. That module reports every adapter Windows sees, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and virtual Wi-Fi Direct adapters.
