First-install notes
- Use and open RDP port 3389 When adding the Ubuntu machine, use its name or IP with :3389 for RDP (remote desktop), and make sure that port is not blocked by a firewall (network shield). The docs also show :5901 for VNC (another remote-desktop protocol), so using the wrong port will prevent xrdp (the remote desktop service) from being reached. source
- Install a client app to test On the computer you will use, install Remmina using the snap or apt command from the docs (sudo is the admin command). Without a remote desktop client (an app that talks to the server), you cannot open the Ubuntu desktop or test that xrdp is working. source
- Add NVIDIA drivers only if needed If your Ubuntu machine has an NVIDIA graphics card and you want smoother display performance, run sudo ubuntu-drivers install or sudo ubuntu-drivers install nvidia:535. Without the right driver, GPU (graphics processor) features may fail or fall back to slower basic display. source
