Hytale-broccoli

A dedicated server for Hytale.

  • Other
  • Tools & Utilities
A dedicated server for Hytale. The server files are downloaded and updated with the official Hytale Downloader. First start: you must sign in with your Hytale account. Open the container log, go to the URL that it shows, and sign in. When the server has started, the log shows a second link. Open it and authorize again. View distance has the largest effect on RAM use. Set MAX_MEMORY to match the RAM you give the server. Hytale uses QUIC over UDP. Forward UDP port 5520 on your router. If you change the port, also change DEFAULT_PORT. To install mods, put .jar or .zip files in the mods folder of the server files and restart the container. Docker image by indifferentbroccoli.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install Java 25 first Install Java 25 from Adoptium and check it with java -version, because the Hytale server will not run if Java 25 is missing. source
  • Keep files together and allow port 5520 Download HytaleServer.jar and Assets.zip into the same folder and start with the shown command. The server needs the assets file to start and listens for players on port 5520, so allow that port in your firewall if remote friends should join or they will not be able to connect. source
  • Give it enough memory Set the memory limits (-Xms and -Xmx) to about 4GB for a small server, such as -Xms4G -Xmx4G. Too little RAM can make the server crash or lag badly. source
  • First-start account sign-in On first start, open the container log and visit the URL it shows to sign in with your Hytale account. After the server starts, the log shows a second link—open it and authorize again. source

Common questions

Why does the Hytale server refuse to start on a fresh host?

Install Java 25 first and check it with java -version, because the Hytale server will not run if Java 25 is missing.

Which firewall rule do players need to join?

The server listens for players on port 5520, so allow that port in your firewall if remote friends should join.

What memory setting should I use for a small server?

Set the memory limits to about 4GB for a small server, such as -Xms4G -Xmx4G. Too little RAM can make the server crash or lag badly.

Where should I look for a lost world after a broken container?

The real world can be trapped inside a stopped container's writable layer after a bind-mount path mismatch, so inspect that layer instead of assuming the obvious save file is the real one.
