XMRig is a high-performance, open-source, cross-platform cryptocurrency miner that supports the RandomX, CryptoNight, KawPow, and GhostRider algorithms on both CPU and GPU. Run it on your Unraid server to mine Monero (XMR) or other coins, and use the built-in RandomX benchmark to check your hardware's performance.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Set pool and wallet before starting In your XMRig config, replace the example pool URL and wallet address with your real pool and wallet, and choose the correct algorithm or coin for that pool. If these are wrong or missing, the pool may reject your work or you may mine nothing. source
  • Only open the API port if needed If you want to use XMRig’s local web control interface, set http.enabled to true, choose a port, and add an access token. If you leave it on without protection, other devices on your network might be able to control the miner. source
  • Use benchmark to test your setup You can add \"benchmark\":\"1M\" to your config to measure performance before sending work to a pool. This helps you check that the miner is using your hardware correctly and avoids wasting time on a pool if something is misconfigured. source

Common questions

What do I need to replace in the config before starting XMRig?

Set the example pool URL and wallet address to your real pool and wallet, and choose the algorithm or coin that the pool expects. If these values are missing or wrong, the pool may reject work or you may mine nothing.

Should I expose the XMRig API port?

Only enable the API if you need the local web control interface. Set http.enabled to true, choose a port, and add an access token, because an unprotected API can let other devices on your network control the miner.

How can I check that XMRig is using my CPU correctly before joining a pool?

Add "benchmark": "1M" to your config to measure performance before sending work to a pool. This helps confirm the miner is using your hardware correctly and avoids wasting time on a misconfigured pool.
