First-install notes

  • Use Pi-hole's URL and admin password When using the pihole6api helper, start it with your Pi-hole web address (such as https://pi.hole) and the Pi-hole admin password. If that password is missing or wrong, Pi-hole rejects the request and the helper can't read or change anything. source
  • Install the Python helper with pip If your setup uses Python, install the helper with pip (Python's package installer) by running pip install pihole6api. It supplies the pihole6api package, and without it the scripts fail when they try to import it. source
  • Use DoH exclusively Set DNS1 and DNS2 to 127.1.1.1#5153 to use DoH exclusively. Port 53 needs a custom br0/br1 network and unique IP, and Unraid DNS settings cannot point to the container IP. source
