Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install the money package first Add the money package with Composer (the tool that adds PHP code to your project) by running `composer require akaunting/laravel-money`. Without it, Akaunting won't have the money formatting code it needs. source
  • Publish the money settings file Run `php artisan vendor:publish --tag=money` to copy the money settings file into your app so you can choose supported currencies and defaults. If you skip this, you may be stuck with default currency behavior and no easy place to change it. source
  • Set a locale for correct formatting If you want amounts to show local symbols and number styles, set the locale with `Money::setLocale()` or let it follow your app's language. Without it, prices can look like the wrong format or use the wrong separators. source
  • Docker setup Copy env/db.env.example to env/db.env and env/run.env.example to env/run.env, set AKAUNTING_SETUP=true, run Docker Compose, then finish configuration in the browser on port 8080. source

Common questions

How do I run the first-time Akaunting Docker setup and what should I do afterward?

Set AKAUNTING_SETUP=true, configure the env files, and run docker-compose up -d, then finish the company wizard on HTTP port 8080. After setup is complete, stop the containers and start them again without the setup variable. Do not use AKAUNTING_SETUP=true again after the first setup.

Can Akaunting use Redis for cache, sessions, and queues?

Yes, put REDIS_HOST in env/run.env and set CACHE_DRIVER, SESSION_DRIVER, and QUEUE_CONNECTION to Redis. The Docker notes describe this as an option for performance enhancement and scalability.

How do I make the Akaunting money settings file editable?

Run php artisan vendor:publish --tag=money to copy the money settings file into the app. If you skip this, you may be stuck with default currency behavior and no easy place to change it.

What accounting limits have self-hosters reported for the free Akaunting version?

A self-hosted user reported that the free version seems limited to single-entry accounting. The same thread notes the paid version may be more complete.
