Create Above and Beyond is a Docker container for the popular Minecraft Forge modpack, automating dedicated server setup by downloading and installing the modpack on first run. The container handles the time-consuming Forge installation process, then starts a ready-to-play server. Designed for homelab users who want a minimal-effort way to host a Create-based Minecraft experience.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Start it with Docker Compose Run `docker compose up --build` in the app folder. Docker Compose (a tool that starts the app's pieces together as packaged containers) builds and starts them, so you do not need to install each part by hand; if it fails, the app will not load. source
  • Open the right local Netlify port If you use Netlify locally, run `ntl dev` and then open `localhost:8888` in your browser. That port is where this local test version listens, so using the wrong address will show a connection error. source
  • Set the database connection If you deploy with Vercel (a hosting service), include your database address, often `DATABASE_URL`, when you run `vercel`. Without that setting, the app may start but features that save or read data can fail. source
  • First Run On first run the container downloads and installs the Create Above and Beyond modpack via the Forge installer, which can take several minutes. Watch the logs for progress. Subsequent starts launch the server directly. source

Common questions

How do I start the packaged Docker deployment?

Run docker compose up --build in the app folder so Docker Compose builds and starts the containers.

Which Java 8 update fixed a Create Above and Beyond server connection problem reported by a user?

The user fixed it by installing Java 8 update 311, also called JDK 8u311, instead of JDK 8u411.

Why can a Create Above and Beyond client show mismatched mod errors on connect?

The client must have the same mods as the server; one user fixed the connection issue by removing Carry On from the client.

Can Create Above and Beyond be installed by placing its zip file into the mods folder?

No, it is a modpack, not a single mod, and it already includes Create and Flywheel; use a launcher to install it.
