First-install notes

  • Install OpenClaw with the one-line script Run this in your terminal (the command prompt): curl -fsSL --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 https://openclaw.ai/install.sh | bash. It installs OpenClaw and opens the first-run wizard, which is where you complete the basic setup instead of editing settings by hand. source
  • Finish the onboarding wizard If the installer does not open the setup screen, run openclaw onboard, or use openclaw configure later to change settings. Completing the wizard is important because it writes the core configuration OpenClaw needs to start and connect correctly. source
  • Add your first chat channel When OpenClaw is running, use a guided command like openclaw channels add telegram to connect a chat channel. The wizard asks for the channel details, such as a bot token, which is a secret key for your bot, so OpenClaw can receive and send messages instead of sitting there with no connected account. source
