QuireInk is a self-hosted, single-container blog for writers who want a dependency-light personal site, newsletters, and Markdown publishing. It provides a Markdown editor with tables, footnotes, mathematics, and video; scheduled publishing; newsletters through your own Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server; no-account comments with spam filtering; cookie-free analytics; full-text search; and a two-column book mode. Readers receive only 3.8-8.7 KB of JavaScript and no third-party scripts. It supports eleven interface languages, importers for WordPress, Ghost, Substack, and Medium, and an artificial-intelligence agent interface through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). All data remains in two SQLite files and one uploads folder, with no separate database container.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

Common questions

How do I complete initial setup and create the owner account?

Open the container log immediately after startup, copy the one-time claim link, open it in a browser, and create the owner account.

How do I upgrade QuireInk in Docker?

The upgrade path is to run docker compose pull.

Do I need to configure TLS separately for the Docker/VPS route?

No, the Docker route uses one command that sets up Docker, the blog, and its certificate.

What data should I back up, and can a fresh install restore it?

A fresh install can start from a backup at any size, and the state is held in two SQLite files.

Can I host it on Cloudflare instead of my own server?

Yes, Cloudflare is available as a beta on Workers Paid. One button creates a new blog there, and an existing blog can move itself from Settings.
