Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Install Rust first Run the rustup installer so your system has Rust and cargo (Rust's package installer). The install steps rely on cargo, so they will not work without it. source
  • Quick install with cargo-binstall Use cargo binstall cross to get a ready-made binary instead of building from source. This is a faster first setup if pre-built binaries are available for your system. source
  • Enable Docker cross-architecture support Run the one-time binfmt install command on the Docker host so Docker can run binaries built for another CPU type. Without it, cross-architecture builds can fail with an exec format error. source
  • Requirements Requires Node.js 24 or newer, a Torznab indexer (Prowlarr or Jackett), and a supported torrent client: rTorrent, qBittorrent, Deluge, or Transmission. source

Common questions

What indexer support does cross-seed need to find cross-seeds?

It needs indexers that support Torznab, typically through Prowlarr or Jackett, and at least one supported torrent client.

Can I use Docker if I want linking, partial matching, or data-based matching?

No, the docs say not to use Docker if you want linking, partial matching, or data-based matching.

Which Docker image tag should I use for a stable cross-seed deployment?

Use the latest tag for the most recent release. The prerelease tag includes prereleases, and master is for development code that may not have been released yet.

Is cross-seed intended for public trackers?

It is designed primarily for private trackers, and the docs direct public-tracker use to the FAQ for more details.
