MetaTana is a local-first, metadata-only media library organizer for movies, television shows, and anime. It identifies titles in existing folders using trusted metadata providers and optional artificial intelligence (AI) assistance, then fixes names and metadata, adds artwork, subtitles, trailers, cast, and crew, and writes player-ready metadata sidecar files (NFO files). It helps home-lab users keep Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, and Kodi libraries clean without depending on how files were acquired. You can review changes before files move and use library health and rename history to catch mismatches, duplicates, inconsistent naming, missing posters, and incomplete seasons.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

Common questions

Which Docker directories should I map so MetaTana data survives container updates?

Map App Data to /app/data so your library, settings, and thumbnails survive a container update. Map your media share under /media with read/write access.

Does MetaTana move or rename files automatically?

No. You review every match, and nothing is renamed or moved until you approve it.

Does the Free version need a metadata key before the first scan?

Today, Free needs your own TMDb metadata key before the first scan. From the next app update, you can scan first and add a key later.

What causes a MetaTana hosted feature to fail in restricted networks?

The app may not be able to reach MetaTana's hosted API. This is common in air-gapped or restrictive network environments.

What should I avoid putting in a public MetaTana bug report?

Do not include email addresses, file paths, library names, logs, account details, or anything else private. GitHub issues are public, so use the private bug form for the normal path.
