Docker container for the HDHomeRun DVR Server by SiliconDust. It runs the HDHomeRun DVR recording engine inside a container, using an entrypoint script that auto-restarts the DVR daemon (up to 10 retries) and a restart-unless-stopped policy for container-level recovery. Host networking enables full HDHomeRun device discovery over UDP broadcast, and timezone is configurable via the TZ environment variable. Useful for homelab users who want to record over-the-air and cable-tuner streams on Unraid without a dedicated DVR machine.

How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

Common questions

Do I need to publish ports in the Docker Compose file?

No; the Compose file uses host networking so UDP broadcast discovery for HDHomeRun devices works. Port mapping is bypassed in host mode, even though the docs list 65001/65002.

Where are the recorded files stored?

Map a host path to the container path /hdhomerun. That directory is the recording output directory.

How do I set the recording timezone?

Set the TZ environment variable, for example America/New_York. The default is UTC.

What happens if the DVR daemon crashes?

The entrypoint restarts the DVR process if it crashes, up to 10 retries. The container also uses restart unless-stopped for container failures.

Do I need to update the tuner firmware before first use?

Yes, before first install or firmware update run the HDHomeRun Windows or Mac application and choose Don't Install for the DVR server component. Re-run tuner setup to update firmware and you may need to re-scan channels.
