Based on 3 of 4 factors.

How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Start Scanopy with Docker Compose On a computer where Docker is installed, download the docker-compose.yml file (the file that tells Docker which services to run) and run `docker compose up -d` from the folder where you saved it. This starts Scanopy and its supporting services in the background, so the web app is available instead of leaving you with no running server. source
  • Install the Scanopy daemon on Linux hosts On a Linux machine you want Scanopy to manage, run the Scanopy daemon install command so it downloads, installs, and starts the daemon (a small background program) automatically. Without the daemon, that host has no local helper sending information to the Scanopy server. source
  • Privileged mode for the middlebox If you use the Scanopy middlebox, install the socat and iptables tools, run setup.sh, and run the container in privileged Docker mode. Privileged mode lets it load the Linux traffic-redirection rules (iptables NAT) it needs; without it, the middlebox won't work. source
  • PostgreSQL requirement The Scanopy server requires a PostgreSQL database; set SCANOPY_DATABASE_URL to the matching database connection string. source

Common questions

How do I install the self-hosted Scanopy server with Docker?

On a computer where Docker is installed, download the docker-compose.yml file and run docker compose up -d from that folder. This starts Scanopy and its supporting services in the background.

How do I add a Linux host to Scanopy?

On the Linux machine you want Scanopy to manage, run the Scanopy daemon install command. It downloads, installs, and starts the daemon that sends information to the Scanopy server.

Does the Scanopy middlebox need special Docker permissions?

Yes, if you use the middlebox, install socat and iptables, run setup.sh, and run the container in privileged Docker mode. Privileged mode lets it load the Linux traffic-redirection rules it needs, so it will not work without it.

Does Scanopy currently support IPv6?

No, IPv6 is not currently supported.

How can I map multiple VLANs or sites?

Deploy daemons across segments to map multi-site and multi-VLAN topologies.
