First-install notes

  • Start the Docker Radarr service on boot If you installed Radarr using Docker (a self-contained app container), open a terminal and run sudo systemctl enable docker-radarr and sudo systemctl start docker-radarr. These tell Linux to start Radarr now and make it start again after a reboot, so your movie app isn't dead when your PC or NAS restarts. source
  • Start the Linux Radarr service If you installed Radarr as a normal Linux service instead, run systemctl enable radarr.service and systemctl start radarr.service. These tell Linux to start Radarr at boot and start it now, so you don't have to remember to launch it by hand. source
  • Choose a clear file naming pattern Set a simple naming pattern, such as {Movie Title} ({Movie Year}) - {Quality Full}, for your downloaded movies. If you use a complicated pattern, the files can end up with confusing names and be hard to find in your media library. source

Common questions

Can one Radarr instance store both a 4K and a 1080p version of the same movie?

No, only one type of a given movie is supported in one instance. You need multiple Radarr instances to keep both a 4K and a 1080p version.

What happens if an automatically selected download fails?

Radarr blacklists the failed release and tries another one until it finds one that works. It can handle issues such as password protected releases or missing repair blocks.

How do I make a Docker install of Radarr start automatically after a reboot?

Run sudo systemctl enable docker-radarr and sudo systemctl start docker-radarr. This starts the Docker service now and makes it start again after a reboot.

What naming pattern should I use for downloaded movies?

Use a simple pattern such as {Movie Title} ({Movie Year}) - {Quality Full}. Complicated patterns can create confusing names that are hard to find in the media library.

Will an existing Radarr data directory be converted automatically during migration?

Yes, Radarr converts any existing directory automatically on startup.
