Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Put Bazarr in its own folder On Linux, create a dedicated folder such as /opt/bazarr and put the Bazarr files there. Keeping everything in one predictable place stops the app or service from failing because it can't find its files. source
  • Run the app from that folder Once the Python packages are installed, run `python3 bazarr.py` from the Bazarr folder. This starts the web interface where you choose your media folders; without running it, Bazarr is installed but not actually doing anything. source
  • Let it start after a reboot If you set Bazarr up as a Linux service, run `sudo systemctl enable bazarr`. That tells systemd (a Linux background-app manager) to start Bazarr automatically after a reboot, so you don't have to run it by hand every time. source

Common questions

On Linux, what must I do after installing Bazarr from Python sources for it to do anything?

Use a dedicated folder such as /opt/bazarr for the files, then run python3 bazarr.py from that folder. Without running it, Bazarr is installed but not actually doing anything.

Will Bazarr improve a subtitle it has already downloaded?

Yes. It can search for matching subtitles regularly and upgrade a previously downloaded subtitle if a better one is found.

Have users reported Whisper producing false subtitle text?

Users report that Whisper can create hallucinated subtitle text during long silences. They ask whether VAD settings might help.

Does the LinuxServer.io Bazarr container receive updates?

The container is documented to receive regular and timely application updates. It also gets weekly base OS updates.
