How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Accept Minecraft's EULA first Set EULA=TRUE in your Docker environment variables before starting the container, because the Minecraft server will not start if Mojang's license agreement hasn't been accepted. source
  • For Forge: set type and installer Set TYPE: FORGE and either provide VERSION/FORGE_VERSION or mount an installer file and set FORGE_INSTALLER to its path; without this the container can't load the right Forge build. source
  • Mount datapack files or paths Set DATAPACKS to a comma-separated list of URLs or container paths, and mount any local paths into the container; if a path can't be read, that datapack won't be installed. source

Common questions

How do I stop the server from failing to start because the Minecraft EULA is not accepted?

Set EULA=TRUE in the container environment before starting it. The server will not start if Mojang's license agreement has not been accepted.

Which environment variables are needed to run this image with Forge?

Set TYPE to FORGE and provide either VERSION/FORGE_VERSION or mount an installer file and set FORGE_INSTALLER to its path. Without these settings, the container cannot load the correct Forge build.

Why can't clients connect even when the container is running?

Make sure both TCP and UDP port 25565 are explicitly published for the container. Minecraft requires both TCP and UDP connections for client access.
