First-install notes
- Set login and storage path first Before starting MinIO, set MINIO_ROOT_USER and MINIO_ROOT_PASSWORD, and pass a real folder path such as /mnt/export to minio server. These are your main account and where files are saved, so forgetting them can block login or leave you nowhere to store data. source
- Start with one path, not 12 drives For a first run, use a simple command like minio server /data instead of the 12-drive example. The {1...12} form expects 12 separate folders/drives, and if they are missing the server can fail to start. source
- Open FTP/SFTP ports if you enable them If you add --ftp and --sftp, allow ports 8021 and 8022, and also allow the FTP passive range 30000-40000. Without those open, a FTP/SFTP connection may appear to start but then files transfer slowly, hang, or fail. source
