How is this calculated?

A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

Common questions

Does tika-server use a forked process for parsing endpoints?

The parsing endpoints /tika, /rmeta, /unpack, /meta, and /detect run in forked JVMs via Tika Pipes. That isolation prevents a parser crash or OOM from taking down the request-handling process, and it requires a Pipes configuration.

What tika-server configuration capabilities were added in 4.1.0?

Tika 4.1.0 adds named configuration presets for tika-server, Micrometer metrics, and environment-variable interpolation in tika-config.json. OCR and enrichment engines are selected by name through a text-recognizers list.

Does the tika-app jar work if I deploy only the jar?

No, the tika-app jar is a thin launcher that loads parsers from the adjacent lib/ directory. If run without the rest of the unzipped distribution, it fails with NoClassDefFoundError.
