Prowlarr is an indexer manager and proxy for the arr suite that centralizes torrent tracker and Usenet indexer configuration. It integrates with Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Readarr, and Mylar3, letting homelab users manage all indexers from one place instead of repeating setup in each application.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Save Prowlarr settings in a volume Mount a saved storage location (a persistent volume) to /prowlarr/etc so Prowlarr can keep its settings and data. Without this, anything you configure can be lost if the container is removed or recreated. source
  • Open port 9696 to reach the web page Map a host port, such as 3000, to container port 9696/tcp, because 9696 is the web UI Prowlarr listens on. If it is not exposed, your browser cannot reach the app. source
  • Match folder permissions to the container If you mount host folders into Prowlarr, set the container's UID/GID (the user and group IDs it runs as) to match the folder owner. A mismatch can make files unwritable or inaccessible. source

Alternatives (3)

  • Hatt - This tool allows to search for files through multiple websites, with an intuitive user interface.
  • Jackett - Jackett is a proxy server that translates search queries from media apps such as Sonarr, Radarr, and Mylar into tracker-site-specific HTTP…
  • NZBHydra2 - NZBHydra2 is a meta search for NZB indexers.

Common questions

Which port should I expose for Prowlarr in Docker?

Map a host port to container port 9696/tcp, because 9696 is the web UI Prowlarr listens on. If it is not exposed, your browser cannot reach the app.

Where should I mount a persistent volume for Prowlarr settings and data?

Mount a saved storage location to /prowlarr/etc so Prowlarr can keep its settings and data. Without this, anything you configure can be lost if the container is removed or recreated.

How do I set folder permissions when mounting host folders into Prowlarr?

Set the container's UID/GID to match the folder owner. A mismatch can make files unwritable or inaccessible.

Can Prowlarr use a proxy for individual indexers?

Yes, Prowlarr supports per indexer proxying with SOCKS4, SOCKS5, HTTP, and Flaresolverr.

How do I adjust indexer category syncing for Readarr or Lidarr?

Adjust the categories synced in the advanced settings for the *Arr application within Prowlarr. Certain trackers require you to select and sync the 8000 category.
