  • Create Odoo's PostgreSQL user first Before starting Odoo, create a PostgreSQL (the database that stores Odoo data) user named 'odoo' and set its password. Without this database account, Odoo cannot create or connect to its database, so your settings and business data have nowhere to be stored. source
  • Replace the placeholder database password The example password is only a placeholder, so use a strong real password for the 'odoo' database user. A weak database password can let someone on your network access or change Odoo data even if the normal web login is protected. source
  • Open port 8069 if you use the examples The examples use port 8069 for reaching Odoo in a browser or from other programs. If you cannot reach the app or other programs cannot connect, allow that port in your firewall or router. source
