Ofelia is a modern and low footprint job scheduler for docker environments, built on Go.
This runs tasks on a schedule, either inside this container or inside other containers via Labels on those containers. See documentation: https://github.com/mcuadros/ofelia?tab=readme-ov-file#docker-labels-configurations

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Start Ofelia with Docker mode enabled Start the Ofelia daemon with --docker when your jobs run in Docker containers, and add --config if your settings file is not in the default place. Without Docker mode, Ofelia may not be able to see or run your container-based scheduled jobs. source
  • Label Docker containers so Ofelia can find them Add Docker labels such as ofelia.enabled=true, plus the job name, schedule, and command, to the containers you want Ofelia to manage. If a container has no Ofelia labels, Ofelia will not know it has a scheduled job and will skip it. source
  • Set up email alerts for failed jobs In the mail settings, enter your SMTP host, username, app password, and the email addresses that should receive alerts. If you skip this, your jobs can still run, but you will not get an email telling you when one fails. source

Common questions

How do I enable Ofelia to manage jobs defined in Docker containers?

Start the Ofelia daemon with --docker when your jobs run in Docker containers, and add --config if your settings file is not in the default place. Without Docker mode, Ofelia may not be able to see or run your container-based scheduled jobs.

How can I get email alerts when a scheduled job fails?

In the mail settings, enter your SMTP host, username, app password, and the email addresses that should receive alerts. If you skip this, your jobs can still run, but you will not get an email telling you when one fails.

Can Ofelia run a scheduled command outside an existing labeled container?

Ofelia can execute commands directly on Docker containers, run commands in new containers, and execute commands on the host running Ofelia.

Why might traditional cron be unsuitable for scheduled jobs in Docker?

Traditional cron can fail in containers, and reliable scheduled tasks can be implemented using Supercronic, Ofelia, or host cron with docker exec.
