Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Choose local or network access address Set the host address (where the app listens) to 127.0.0.1 for your machine only, or 0.0.0.0 for other devices on the network. If you pick the wrong one, either no one outside your machine can connect, or your app may be reachable by unintended users. source
  • Open the port you set The examples use a web port such as 8080, so make sure that port is allowed by your firewall or router if other devices need it. If the port is blocked, the app may start but your browser or client will time out or be refused. source
  • Put static files in the right folder If serving files from disk, point the staticPath setting to the folder that actually contains those files and keep the folder safe. If the folder is missing or named wrong, pages may show not-found errors or users may not see your files. source

Common questions

What username and password should I use for the first RStudio Server login?

Use the username rstudio and the randomly generated password printed in the container console. If your container system runs rootless, log in as root with the randomly generated password.

How are CRAN package versions kept reproducible in the versioned images?

Non-current images are automatically pinned to an MRAN snapshot of CRAN from the last day that R version was current. You can also set a custom snapshot date for r-ver images with the BUILD_DATE build argument.

Where are the current build scripts for R 4.x versioned images?

The rocker-versioned repository only keeps archived build scripts for the 3.x versioned series. Use rocker-versioned2 for the current 4.x versioned image build scripts.
