Available on 2 of 9 platforms
Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes
- Prepare the Solr data folder Create a local folder such as `~/solrdata`, run `sudo chown :8983 ~/solrdata` to set group ID 8983, and add the folder to Docker's allowed volumes if your Docker Desktop setup requires it. This prevents permission errors and blocked storage, which can stop Solr from saving its search index or starting correctly. source
- Build and start the Solr container Build the image with `docker build -t typo3-solr -f Docker/SolrServer/Dockerfile .`, then run it with `-v ~/solrdata:/var/solr/data/data` and `-p 127.0.0.1:8282:8983`. This keeps Solr's files in your local folder and gives you a local web port, so you can reach Solr and keep its index after restarts. source
- Install the TYPO3 extension with Composer If you're adding this to a TYPO3 site, run `composer require apache-solr-for-typo3/solr` in the project root; Composer is the package installer that brings in the extension's code. Without this step, your TYPO3 site won't have the Solr search extension installed. source

Common questions
What Docker data folder setup prevents Solr index permission problems?
Create a local folder such as ~/solrdata, set its group ID to 8983, and add it to Docker's allowed volumes if your Docker Desktop setup requires it. This helps prevent permission errors that can stop Solr from saving the index or starting.
Does Solr require explicit schema definitions for fields?
Yes, you need to declare each field type and set schemas in Solr.
What configuration areas are important when running Solr in production?
Production Solr requires care with JVM heap sizing and GC tuning, as well as master/replica replication setup. Getting these wrong can cause Solr to fall over under load.
Where can self-hosters get support for Solr?
You can ask for help in the users mailing list, the Solr Community Slack channel, or the #solr IRC channel.
Are there current security notices for Solr?
The Solr site notes recent security announcements and points to the security page for details.
