First-install notes

  • Install cert-manager first Before starting the operator, install cert-manager, the helper that creates and manages TLS certificates. Without it, the deployment can fail or the operator may not be able to secure its communication. source
  • Use the official kubectl install After cert-manager is ready, run the docs' kubectl (Kubernetes command-line) command to apply the operator manifest. This creates the controller pods in your cluster; without it, your operator configuration files have nothing to run them. source
  • Optional: add the Target Allocator If your setup needs the Target Allocator, install it from the OpenTelemetry Helm chart. It helps spread scrape jobs across collector instances, but a simple first install can usually skip it. source
  • Migrate to v1beta1 Since v0.5.0 the operator uses API version v1beta1; follow the migration guide in the repository docs when upgrading from an older release. source
