First-install notes

  • Set up your UniFi controller first Run `unifi config init` and enter your controller host and API key (a secret token that lets the app talk to UniFi). Without this saved connection, commands cannot reach UniFi and the TUI may ask you to connect first. source
  • Pick the easiest install method If you do not have Rust tools, use `pip install unifi-cli` or run it once with `uvx unifi-cli`. This gives you the command-line tool without needing to build it from source. source
  • Fix a rejected saved key in the TUI If the TUI (text-based screen in your terminal) says your controller rejected the saved key, choose guided setup and re-enter the controller details. A valid key is what lets it load devices and clients. source
