Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Download and start Trilium on Linux Download the latest Trilium Linux server archive, extract it, and run ./trilium.sh from the extracted folder; if you're connected over SSH, use nohup ./trilium.sh & so it keeps running after you close the terminal. This starts the notes app instead of leaving you with a silent command that may die when your session ends. source
  • Turn on Trilium at boot with systemd Run sudo systemctl daemon-reload, enable trilium.service, and start it now; systemd (Linux's service manager) will then launch Trilium after reboots. Without this, the app can be missing after a power cycle and you'll have to restart it by hand. source

Common questions

How should I start the packaged Trilium Linux server over SSH?

Download and extract the latest Linux server archive, then run ./trilium.sh from the extracted folder. If you are connected over SSH, use nohup ./trilium.sh & so it keeps running after you close the terminal.

Why does Trilium keep crashing after a restart?

A note with a faulty script can cause Trilium to crash. If Trilium tries to reload that problematic note on restart, it will continue to crash.

Is Trilium designed for multiple user accounts?

The project assumes that only a single person has access to the app. That single-user assumption simplifies many parts of the application.

Does Trilium have password sharing or automatic locking?

Trilium has password sharing of notes and automatic AFK locking. The lock is mentioned after 5 minutes of being away.
