First-install notes

  • Install the Caracal CLI first On Linux or macOS, run the install script from the docs to add the caracal command. Without this, later setup steps like caracal up will not work. source
  • Start the stack and open guided setup Run caracal up, then caracal status --ready and caracal web to launch the local services and open the web console. This is where first-run configuration happens, so it is easier than editing files by hand. source
  • Use the demo upstream if you need a test target Start the included Nginx test site using Docker (a container tool) on the caracalData network when guided setup asks for a resource upstream. This gives you a simple local service to point at without exposing a real app to the internet. source
  • Rubyric manual setup (README) Rubyric is a Ruby on Rails app. Install Ruby and the rake and bundler gems, run bundle install, copy the base config files (secret_token.rb, settings.rb, database.yml), create a PostgreSQL database, run rake db:setup, then start it with bundle exec rails server. source
