First-install notes

  • Create the .env settings file Run `cp env.example .env` to make a copy of the sample settings before starting Mattermost. Without this .env file (a settings file), the app may not have the configuration it needs to run. source
  • Start the Mattermost service After the software is installed, run `sudo systemctl start mattermost` to turn the app on. If you skip this step, the service is not running and the app will not be available in a browser. source
  • Optional: install video calls If you want built-in video calls, run `mmctl plugin marketplace install jitsi` to install the Jitsi plugin. This extra is not required, but without it that video-call feature will not be available. source
