AirConnect turns UPnP, Sonos, and Chromecast speakers into AirPlay targets so Apple devices can stream audio to them. It detects players on your local network, creates virtual AirPlay devices, and bridges audio between AirPlay senders and your existing speakers. Runs on any networked machine, from a Raspberry Pi to a full server.

Health score?A 0-100 score computed nightly from four factors: maintained (40%: recent commits and steady activity), popular (25%: GitHub stars, log scale), easy to install (20%: platforms, install notes, setup guides, Docker image) and light to run (15%: minimum RAM, ARM support). When the source code has been checked, a fifth factor, security check (20%: automated scan for committed secrets, unsafe desktop-app settings, known-vulnerable dependencies and project hygiene; any serious finding caps it at 20), is added. Factors without data are left out and the rest are rescaled.

First-install notes

  • Download the ready-made binary Download the pre-built AirConnect zip for your system with wget instead of building from source. That skips compile tools and gives you the program file you need to run. source
  • Make the program file runnable After extracting the zip, run chmod +x on the AirConnect executable. On Linux and macOS, without this step the system will refuse to launch it. source
  • Let speakers be found on the network If your players don't appear, allow mDNS (port 5353) to be shared and don't block multicast traffic. For Avahi set disallow-other-stacks=no, and on some Asus routers disable multicast snooping. source
