  • Tools & Utilities
AppDynamics Machine Agent is an infrastructure monitoring agent that runs on every node of your Kubernetes cluster, or on standalone servers, and reports machine-level metrics to the AppDynamics platform. It continuously collects CPU, memory, disk, and network data from each host and sends it to AppDynamics, where you can build dashboards, set alerts, and correlate host issues with application behavior. Platform and operations teams use it to spot failing or overloaded nodes early and investigate incidents without maintaining a second monitoring stack.

First-install notes

  • No admin rights are needed You can look up the machine ID without using sudo/root. Avoid giving the app extra admin rights unless the installer explicitly asks, because that can expose system settings unnecessarily. source
  • Know where the host ID lives on Linux On Linux, the unique machine ID is usually stored in /var/lib/dbus/machine-id or /etc/machine-id. Keep that file private and do not share or overwrite it, because it can be used to identify your machine to services. source
